Rice Water – What’s The Fuss?

So, what is the hype around rice water? If you follow Japanese or Korean skincare routines, you will find that rice is one of the most popular beauty ingredients used. The Japanese and Korean women are known for their flawless, glowing skin. Using rice water for skin is a natural home remedy that contains amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that are known to protect and repair your skin.

There are multiple ingredients available at home that can do wonders for your skin. Turns out, even the discarded water after soaking or boiling rice can be used for enhancing skin’s health. In a nutshell, rice water is moisturising, brightening, calming, and anti-ageing. Don’t we just love to hear those words?

It could also prevent the activity of elastase, an enzyme responsible for skin ageing. Rice water could help maintain skin elasticity and can reduce the appearance of ageing signs on the skin. Most importantly rice water is used to brighten the skin and provide an even skin tone. It keeps your skin healthy, glowing, and clear.

The outermost layer of skin is known as a skin barrier, the dermis, that prevents your skin from becoming dried up and vulnerable to conditions like eczema and atopic dermatitis. However, using rice water on the face enables its starch content to protect the skin naturally.

Sun damage like sunburn, inflammation, redness and itching can be relieved by applying starchy rice water. The cooling effect can soothe the sunburned skin and can reduce tanning.

Those with oily skin can rinse with rice water because its sharp effects help to reduce oiliness and protect the skin from pimples and acne.

How to make rice water at home.

This is simple and not rocket science. While there are several methods of preparing rice water, you could try these mentioned below.

Soaking.

·         1 cup of rice with 2-3 cups of water into a bowl for 30 minutes.

  • Strain the rice and collect the water in a bowl and refrigerate it.

Boiling

  • Boil 1 cup of rice with the amount of water normally used for cooking.

  • Strain the starchy water in a bottle and let it cool down completely before you store it in the refrigerator.

To use rice water on your face, it is a good idea to store it in a spray bottle first. Cleanse your face before using rice water. Spray the water on your face directly as a toner. You may also use a cotton ball to apply rice water. Keep on your face for 20 to 30 minutes. Then you can wash it off with warm water.
