Hair Growth

There are literally 1000’s of posts, blogs, vlogs, and Pinterest items on this very subject, it can make your head spin.

Many claim to be able to make your hair grow to a certain length within days of starting their treatments.  The issue with this is that each individual is different, our bodies and specifically our hair, is different and these treatments may or may not work for you. Everyone will have a different experience, or the products just may not work for your hair at all.

So, let’s start at the beginning. There are a few things to first think about that may be a factor of little to no growth. You need to consider your age, health, diet, and genetics. Let’s Take a look at these in a little more depth.

Genetics

Genetics is a very important factor. Have a good look at your family, and their hair history. Your mother, father and grandparents are a good place to start. If there was much balding, thinning hair or patches that will not grow, chances are you may inherit these genetics from your ancestors. Likewise, if you come from a line of descendants which have fabulous hair, chances are, you will too. Take a look at what their hair growth challenges are, if any.

Health

Secondly, we need to make sure we are eating a healthy balanced diet. Growth comes from the inside, not on the outside. The other options are merely to enhance growth.

Try to eat more protein and Biotin rich foods. Wholegrains, soya bean, yeast, raspberries, cranberries, and egg yolk are great too. You may have noticed that your hair oil and shampoos also consist of biotin, because it is so valuable to your hair.

You should also try to add vegetables, nuts, pulses, fish, chicken, eggs, turkey, and dairy products to your diet. Protein is a very important nutrient when we talk about body and hair growth. It assists in growing your hair and therefore consuming a good amount of protein becomes more essential. If our diet is not full of protein we will suffer from hair loss, dry and fragile hair.

Salmon which is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids maintain a healthy scalp and a beautiful shine to your hair. You can also eat avocado which is very healthy for your whole body and spinach is full of iron and Vitamin E. Chicken and dairy products are good to keep on your healthy daily menu too.

Age

When ageing, our hair will naturally become thinner and lose a bit of its volume, so don’t be too harsh on your hair. Natural haircare products are a fantastic alternative if you are not already using these on your hair. Our bodies change all during our lifetime, from birth to adulthood and the same applies to our hair. The state and nature of our hair will change more than once during your lifetime.

Try natural remedies first and be careful not to damage your hair with harmful chemicals.

The scalp and particularly the follicle of our hair responds favourably to regular massages and light brushing. Use a good quality shampoo and conditioner.

Hold back on hair dyes and other harmful chemicals. Make sure your hairdresser is using top quality dyes and other treatments if you really must use them. Alternatively, let your hair colour grow out while you are trying to get it fuller and healthier. Blow drying can cause damage when the heat is high and it’s used every day. Be more conscience of how much heat you use.

The other alternative, and a fast-growing trend now, is to use a hair wig during the transition from short over coloured hair to long healthy hair.

Bear in mind, if your hair loss is more substantial than the average person, you may have to consult your doctor, who in return, may even refer you to a specialist on the matter.
