When You Feel Drained

There's a lot of arguments about how we are all supposed to charge our smartphones. Some say you should max it out to 100 per cent, others say you can charge it in a short burst at a time. But there's one charging hack that almost everyone agrees on, don't let your phone drain!

So, when we see our smartphones at a critical level of 30 or 20 per cent, we scamper to the nearest power supply. As a rule, we should give it time, leaving it until it is powered enough to be used again.

Life in the 21st century is very much like the most 21st-century invention of all. Having to juggle work, social life, good health, strong relationships can take a toll on a person. We push hard and long, and many of us run on empty batteries. We would never let our phones be this drained, and yet most of the time, we are.

We wake up to another day, most probably working from home. You might have to rush, skip breakfast or heat up whatever is left from the night before. Your energy is already low, and you aren't even halfway through the day.

When you feel drained, it's because you are strained. You are stretching yourself helplessly to fight off the mental, physical, or emotional stress. But like a power charger and a power socket that can charge up your phone, there are activities you can do to recharge yourself within the day.

There are things you can do that research has called restorative activities. These actions can help improve your physical and mental energy. This also fights the diseases developed by stress. Meditation, exercise and even touching trees are some restorative activities.

But if you need a quick pick me up during the day, here are some things you can do. The following are stressors and how you can fight them.

How To Recharge When You Feel Drained

Staring At Screens:

Surround yourself with some greenery. Get some plants around your room and look at green spaces periodically. This will help you recover from eye strain.

If you've been sitting for hours on your desk, take a quick stretch and move around every 40 minutes.

Shallow Breathing:

Do you feel like you've got no wind, take a deep breath. Take more oxygen in to help your nervous system calm down.

Lack of Hygiene:

If you are cutting corners on your grooming, give yourself much-needed hydrotherapy. Exfoliate and take time to clean yourself and treat your senses.

Coffee:

A coffee nap has been scientifically proven to improve the effects of caffeine. After taking your cup, take a short 20-minute nap. That's about the time it will need for the hot beverage to take effect. When you wake up, you will be energized with better mood, alertness and overall performance.

Having a difficult conversation:

Treat yourself to some indulgent, feel-good music. Your mood will be better, and your stress will dissipate.

Isolation:

Here's something very common this year. Make use of technology and intentionally connect with friends and loved ones. Don't just make it a random conversation, be deliberate on who you are calling and spend time catching up.

Don't let the batteries die out. When you start getting the first signs of feeling drained, recharge!
