When Your Body Hurts: Home Remedies To Feel Better

A visit to the spa would be lovely, but we need to stay at home for a while. Are you experiencing some muscle pains, body aches, period cramps? These are easy and effective remedies for body pain.

We've all been there. Taking out the new yoga pants for a spin, or lifting boxes in a form we're not supposed to. When our muscles and bones are moving or carrying unusual weight, they get sore or stiff. When we exercise or overwork our bodies, we get body pain.

Some health conditions such as fever, the common cold, menstrual cramps, and even stress can lead to body pain. Severe problems like arthritis is also another way our body can hurt severely.

But the good news is, your body is capable of healing! And what you can do is help alleviate the pain with some simple, inexpensive home remedies. (Caveat: If you have underlying medical conditions, we strongly suggest checking with your medical practitioner.)

Cold Compress

Applying ice on the body part in pain helps slow down the nerves causing muscle spasms. Even those with arthritis can benefit from this home remedy. Cold compress reduces inflammations.

To do cold therapy, you can wrap ice cubes in a cloth and apply to the body part that hurts. There are also cooling gel packs that do the same trick.

Drink Turmeric

This isn't just your granny's drink. If you are experiencing persistent pain, mix turmeric and honey in a glass of warm milk. The curcumin is an anti-inflammatory, pain-killer that exist in turmeric. Drink the concoction daily. You can also add turmeric powder onto your daily tea.

Drink Cherry Juice

If you are experiencing pain in the hands and feet, one type of juice can specifically help alleviate the discomfort. New studies confirm that there are pigments of anthocyanin in cherry juice. Drink a glass of unsweetened cherry juice daily.

Ginger

As a young girl, ginger has always been the favourite pain-killer in our household. You can drink ginger tea, cut a small slice and chew on it (especially if you have cough and colds), or you can even dip a cut of ginger on menthol oil and wrap it in the area that hurts. The last bit I wouldn't recommend without a kindly grandmother to assist you.

Scientists have found the healing properties of ginger to be similar to the effects of drinking ibuprofen.
