Green tea has long been touted by fitness gurus, lifestyle and wellness influencers, and even by your grandmother. Each one claims different benefits for this hot leafy beverage. But is it really what they claim it to be?
What about drinking green tea every day? If you drink one cup after a cold and sad day, it lifts you up and calms you down. Imagine what it can do if you drank it consistently?
The beverage was said to be invented or discovered by a Chinese emperor in 2737 B.C. Since then, it has been a staple drink for all people of all ages. Next to water, many people swear this is the healthiest drink you will ever have.

Many adults, myself included, depend on some form of caffeine to help us get through the day. Our main source for caffeine though comes from coffee.
While drinking coffee is healthy, what we often add to it (like milk, sugar and other sweeteners) are not.
Green tea, on the other hand, contains caffeine but not on the same level as coffee. So you won't experience that palpitation you would get from coffee.
2. You will have less anxiety.
Green tea contains an amino acid called L-theanine. According to a study from Unilever Food and Health Research Institute, "L-theanine significantly increases activity in the alpha frequency band which indicates that it relaxes the mind without inducing drowsiness."
It goes without saying that green tea does not cure anxiety. But it can help you calm down if you are experiencing any worries or anxiety.
3. You will have a healthier heart.
If you live an active and healthy lifestyle, drinking green tea every day supplements your habits. According to Healthline, green tea can improve some of the main risk factors for [cardiovascular] diseases," including heart attacks and strokes.
4. You will lose weight.
Consuming green tea helps reduce body weight, specifically body fat. What green tea can do is increase the postprandial thermogenesis and fat oxidation. That simply means that it can reduce abdominal fat which is dangerous for your health.
5. You will be less prone to sickness.
With all the great nutrients found in this leafy drink, it's no surprise that it can boost your immune system and fight off harmful diseases.
These are just some of the amazing ways your body improves by drinking green tea every day. Again, we should remind you that health is a holistic practice. Drinking green tea but not sleeping well or eating junk foods will not do any good. Stay healthy!
