12 Acts of Kindness

Christmas is a little tough this year, but it can be better with a little bit of cheer.

Contrary to the name, doing self-care isn't selfish. It can be generous and selfless. Today in BWG Botanics, we thought of reminding all our readers what this festive season is all about. Spreading kindness around, especially in a challenging time, makes one healthier and happier.

Kindness and doing good for others gives you a light glow and happy heart more than any other activity can ever do.

So make a pause this season. Avoid getting caught up in the dizzying busyness of Christmas. Remember what really matters!

1.    Donate to the food bank. This is a time of giving and sharing. Donate to those in need. You'll be surprised how some of the foods you don't care for are actually a treat for others. Instead of leaving those dry goods, you hoarded on to go to waste, donate them to your nearest food bank.

2.    Pass on gifts. There's a wonderful project going around called the Christmas Sack of Kindness. You fill in goodies and treats and leave it for someone else. They will then have to do the same and pass it to someone else.

3.    Gift a friend with a plant. Not all your friends may have companions this season. Giving a friend a plant says that you care for them.

4.    Donate pet supplies. Rescue shelters this season are incredibly challenged. Bring joy to cats and dogs, donate toys and treats.

5.    Send toys to Children's hospitals. There are plenty of sick children who won't be able to go home for Christmas. Coordinate with your local hospital to find what needs you can perhaps supply. Even a box with music or movies will put smiles on the young one's faces.

6.    Care for the elderly. Because of the lockdown, many elderly won't be able to visit or be visited by family. Check-in with your neighbours who are alone and in need of company.

7.    Donate to charity. If you have some spare this year, Charities all over the UK are happy to receive any amount of donation.

8.    Walk your neighbours' dog. You never know the burden your neighbours are going through this season. Take a load off busy schedule and also get to spend time with a beautiful pet.

9.    Put together a Samaritan's Purse. Children all over the world have experienced immeasurable joy when the shoeboxes arrive. Fill it with small trinkets and treats and provide happiness for the less fortunate.

10.    Buy the Kindness Elves. Promote kindness, sharing, and gratitude among children.

11.    Buy socks to help the homeless. Socks are the most requested item by homeless shelters.

12.    Write a thank-you note. Old-fashioned it may seem, this never fails to put a smile on the recipient's face. Something as sweet and simple as this goes a long way this season.
