Crystal Facial Rollers – What Are They And What Are They Used For?

As the rest of the world follows the trend with regards to holistic healing and natural products, there have been many that have used the products and have been reaping the benefits for years already.

Whilst crystals were often used as just a pretty paper weight on the corner of the desk, they have also been used to cleanse water, purify auras and as a tool to meditate with. However, rubbing crystals on our faces was not something that you would consider, until now that is.

So what exactly is a crystal roller?

With its soothing, calming effects on the skin, a crystal roller is a beauty tool that has a round and polished crystal that can rotate on the tool. Often you will find two sides, one longer more oval shaped stone, and another smaller stone. There are many variants of crystals, all which have different uses. The different stones include the likes of Rose Quartz, Jade and Amethyst.

Crystal rollers have actually been around for quite some time, with evidence of the use of Jade stones on the skin that go as far back to the 7th Century in China. The traditional practice used then is still used in certain treatments to this day.

The tool or wand is used to rejuvenate the skin, and is gaining major popularity in recent years as an easily accessible, effective and relatively non-invasive skin treatment for many. The long oval shaped end is generally used for the flat planes on your face, like the forehead, chin and cheeks. The smaller, rounder side is used for smaller areas like under the eyes, the nose and the eyelids.

Why should I use one?

Regular use of this wonderous little tool can give you an array of benefits.

Some of these include:

  • Increased blood circulation

  • Improved skin tone

  • Reduction of puffiness

  • Reduction in wrinkles

  • Promotes lymphatic drainage

  • Improves elasticity of the skin

  • Gives your skin a natural collagen boost

  • Eliminates toxins

  • Tightens pores

By incorporating your facial roller into your morning or evening (or both) routines, you will begin to notice a visible difference. Try using your favourite facial cream or serum and try rolling in an upward motion.

A handy tip to remember: By keeping your roller in the fridge a couple of hours before you begin to roll, you should experience a natural cooling effect on your skin as well.

Which one should I choose for my skin?

There is no specific stone for any specific skin type. Just as you would choose a crystal for any other purpose, you need to look at the individual properties of the crystal and select the one that you gravitate towards the most.

How do you clean it?

This process also depends on you. A simple wipe down with a cloth will suffice. However, you could also deep clean your roller with some warm soapy water – the same way in which you would clean the rest of your beauty/makeup tools.

You could also conduct more of a spiritual clean, whereby you could soak it in some salt water, or literally just leave it in a bowl of salt overnight. Salt is known for drawing negative energies out and cleansing, so this could help in not transferring that back to your skin. Another natural way of cleansing is to put your crystal in the moonlight for the night to recharge its energy.
